The Commission is responsible for promoting
social justice within the parish and civic
community. Among its responsibilities are: 1)
developing a parish information-action program
based on the Gospel and Catholic Social
Teachings, 2) identifying social issues and
human needs in the community and developing
broad Christian service action plans to aid in
meeting those needs, 3) providing education
about social justice issues from the Catholic
perspective to parishioners, 4) coordinating
outreach efforts to the community at large. The
seven member of this committee meet monthly on
the first Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Sacred Heart has a
sister parish, San Raphael in
Haiti.
The Haiti Committee composed of 6
members, meets monthly to assess needs and
respond to needs of San Raphael Parish.
•
The Advent Project provided Christmas for 95
families in our immediate area. 120 people
participated in the organizing and delivery of
those gifts. Countless parishioners supported
the Advent Project by sponsoring a family or
contributing financially to the project.
•
Monthly outreach collections totaled $4,889.00
for the fiscal year. Another $2,498.00 was given
out through the parish office for assistance to
those in need.

Marie’s Ministry takes food, clothing, furniture
and supplies to the poor of our area on a daily
basis.
•
Sacred heart staffs the Loaves and Fishes Soup
Kitchen 4 times a year (10 volunteers for a
total of 200 hours). We have numerous
parishioners who work for other service
organizations in our community. Three Sacred
Heart parishioners represent Sacred Heart on the
board for the Center for Lay Ministries.

Parish participation in quality of life events
such as: Relay for Life (32 participants from
the parish raised over $3000), Alzheimer’s
Memory Walk, Red Cross Blood Drive, and the
50/50 Food Campaign.

The Commission interfaced with the Youth
Commission to bring parish awareness on their
community service project through “Sharing From
the Heart.”
